Description:
#91629, Al Biesen Gunmaker Spokane, Wn: A Total Custom by Al Biesen in 35 Whelen on a Mauser Action with a 22 1/2" barrel without open sights but a sling eye on the barrel, Custom profiled Leupold type 2-piece scope bases, Zeiss 3-9 x 36 scope, Blackburn one piece magazine box with a straddle hinged floorplate with a center bow release, A bolt sleeve 2-position wing safety, A Tom Burgess style bolt handle (I have seen my share and I will eat it for breakfast if Tom Burgess didn't do it); As a matter of fact, I think Tom Burgess did all the metal work on the entire action; Inside and out, it is the near perfect work of the metal master himself, Canjar trigger, Jeweled bolt and follower, Action rails inside and out are polished (Burgess style), Checkered bolt stop release, A pure Biesen Custom Classic style stock, A very nice piece of English Walnut, Biesen classic full wrap around Fleur-De-Lis checkering with a deep recess, Shadowline cheekpiece, Ebony forend tip, Biesen 2-screw checkered steel grip cap, Double screw tiedown rear sling eye, Lightning cuts inside the forearm, 13 3/4" LOP over a Biesen checkered steel buttplate, 8 lbs. 4 oz. with the scope, The bore is new, Overall the gun is near 99% on both metal and wood. I have had a good share of Biesen rifles, and this is one of the best inside and out. As I said, if Burgess didn't do the metal work, I'll have it for breakfast. This piece will shoot 1" groups at 100 yards. I can assure you this gun never went hunting, if it did it stayed in camp. Mr. Al Biesen is the Norman Rockwell of custom bolt rifles in America and his merits are covered extensively in the pages of Jack O'Connor and the Gun Digest.

Mr. Al Biesen was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1918 and 30 years later moved to Spokane, Washington and set up shop in his basement on Sinto Street. He built a lot of rifles for Jack O'Connor and several rifles for Prince Abdorezza Pahlavi of Iran. Roger Biesen joined on with his dad and continued the tradition of workmanship and the Biesen style with their noted Fleur-De-Lis checkering style. Al taught his son Roger the art of gun building, and his granddaughter Paula worked in the shop as well becoming an engraver. Biesen preferred the pre-64 Model 70 action and the Mauser 98 action, he always worked with fine walnut. He never made a synthetic stocked rifle in his life. Al Biesen passed away in Spokane in 2016 and the age of 98.
