The approx. 23"" round barrel has a fair bore with areas of roughness. The barrel has three London proof marks. It is gray/brown with light to medium pitting. The lock is marked BRAZIER who was a London lock maker. This gun most likely dates to the mid-1750s. It was probably shortened during its period of use to the present configuration. The stock is good with age shrinkage and cracks. There is a crack from the center sideplate screw forward to the barrel. The post and yoke are replacements and the frizzen and frizzen spring appear to have been restored. The brass triggerguard and buttplate are good. A wood ramrod is present. The action functions correctly. This interesting wall gun was probably used to guard some one's castle. They are very rare today. Price: $4,750.00 Antique: Yes |
