Description:
"

NSN, .70 caliber, 37"" round barrel circa 1778 U.S. Surcharged composite Rev War carbine. Carbine has been reconverted back to its original configuration. Barrel is marked with the initials ""JH"" and stamped with British proof marks. Metal is a smooth grey patina with surface oxidation noted around the touch hole. Lock is unmarked and is period correct. Stock is a beautiful curly maple with some period repairs noted on the wrist. The stock has an old label that reads "" Rappahannock Forge"", it is known that Rappahannock guns are some of the earliest firearms of the Continental Army and guns were repaired there as well. The underside of the stock is branded ""U States"" which was done in 1778 by orders of General Washington. Action functions correctly and holds at half and full cock. A great piece of early Revolutionary War weapon.
