Serial No.: 108131, which places the date of manufacture to be October-November, 1864. Civil War soldiers who were given the choice to take a side arm home when they mustered out strongly preferred the Remington to the 1860 Colt Army. Strong rifling with shine in the groves. Cartouche visible on worn grips. Typical of a weapon that spent a lot of time in a holster. Military sub-inspector's marks clear and sharp on barrel, frame and cylinder. Possible re-blue in places, but the sub-inspector's marks and edges are quite sharp, so it is hard to say. Please see photos. Address on barrel a little light, but completely legible. Action is tight and mainspring is strong. I have not fired this weapon and because it is an antique, do not recommend it. It does seem to cycle and function correctly. Clearly, a Civil War survivor in nice shape.
