Description:
I’ve never seen a Reilly gun I didn’t like and I’ve seen my share; every one has been a beautifully executed first quality gun and this one is no exception. My experience and opinion is shared by every authority on English guns with whom I’ve ever spoke on the subject. Never have I heard a bad word uttered about a Reilly gun. Although not achieving their notoriety, Reilly was a maker worthy of the same praise as those “best” makers whose names we all know.

This handsome duck destroyer features a casehardened border and scroll engraved action with carved fences and sidelocks each signed “E.M. REILLY & CO.” and considerable original case colors throughout, engraved underlever with loop tip and engraved blued trigger guard, dual triggers with an articulated front trigger (to protect your trigger finger from recoil), browned damascus twist barrels signed “E.M. REILLY & CO. OXFORD STREET, LONDON 7 RUE SCRIBE, PARIS.” on the rib with a single bead front sight, flourishes of light scroll engraving at the breach, a single large extractor, and each struck with Birmingham block powder proof marks. All mounted in a 14 ¾” pull English walnut pistol grip stock with fine flat-top checkered grip and plain black horn grip cap, a vacant Britannia metal oval escutcheon on the belly, solid rubber recoil pad, and checkered forearm with engraved fittings, horn tip insert, and single wedge fastener. These guns saw hard use in the period and will typically have a “badge of honor” here or there to prove it. This cannon is no exception. There is a well repaired crack in the stock between the breach tang and the sidelock on the right side and a solid hairline crack behind the left sidelock both of which may be seen in the photographs accompanying this listing. Neither detract appreciably from the gun’s appearance or function.

Mechanically fine.
Made in 1873

These big anti-aircraft guns are getting harder and harder to find in this quality and condition. They make a statement displayed anywhere in your home or man cave or at the range.

As you're considering this gun, remember the advice of a late gun collecting friend of mine, “you only ever regret the guns you didn’t buy,” “where are you going to find another one,” and “you can make more money tomorrow.” Please also remember, whatever you’re thinking of offering, “I’ve got more than that in it!”
