Description:
Serial #153 and made in 1887 this original 1876 Martini-Henry Common Long Bayonet sometimes referred to the pattern 1876 was converted at RSAF Enfield in February 1900, in excellent condition with only slight surface oxidation on the blade and most, 90- 93% of the original bluing on the socket. Alterations to this bayonet include compressing the socket to the smaller diameter, filling the original mortise, and cutting a new mortise 90 degrees from the original to allow the bayonet to hang underneath the barrel when fixed. A filled portion of the original P1876 mortise is clearly visible on this socket. About 86k of these were made for overseas use. 21 1/2" blade, 3" socket.
