Description:
The Ruger Pistol Caliber Carbine was introduced in 1996 to meet a demand by law enforcement agencies for a rifle more powerful than a pistol but less powerful than an AR-15 to prevent overpenetration of most targets. The ability to use the same ammunition as the department issue pistol was preferable. The idea was that an officer would carry a Ruger P-Series pistol, such as the P89 or P94 as their sidearm and keep the PC Carbine in their vehicle’s trunk as a more offensive weapon. It was also available for sale to civilians. Although fairly popular with law enforcement, the general public did not yet realize the true potential of a pistol-caliber carbine, despite the benefits of having a rifle and a pistol chambered in the same cartridge having been made very clear back in the days of the Old West. Arguably, the Ruger PC Carbine and the similar Marlin Camp Carbine were ahead of their time. In 2007, Ruger discontinued production of the rifle, citing low market demand despite the widespread sales of the Sub 2000 (introduced 2001) and the growing market for pistol caliber rifles. To be certain, it was the wrong decision at the wrong time. Eventually, Ruger realized their mistake and set about correcting it, redesigning the PC Carbine for a more modern audience. The resulting current PC Carbine entered production in 2017, featuring a takedown ability similar to the 10/22 Takedown rifle. This newer version witnessed a much better reception than its predecessor and continues in production to this day. The example shown here is Model 19134, one of the special Magpul versions. It features the Magpul PC Backpacker stock which provides the rifle with a boatload of features. To start with, it comes with an ergonomic handguard and optional QD sling mount capability. More importantly, the PC Backpacker stock features TWO storage compartments – one in the grip, and a hinged compartment in stock capable of storing magazines. Most importantly, it features a unique locking interface to attach the barrel assembly to the receiver when the PC is being transported. See Picture # 15. As with the standard PC Carbine, this rifle comes with interchangeable magazine wells for use with the common Ruger and Glock magazines. The magazine release and bolt charging handle are reversible. The latter is especially useful for those who prefer to operate the charging handle with their offhand. Those who are familiar with the FAL or G3/CETME rifles will understand. The cold hammer-forged, chrome-moly steel barrel uses ultra-precise rifling to ensure high accuracy combined with a long barrel life. The end of the barrel is threaded for use with standard muzzle accessories. A thread protector is included as standard. The Model 19134 is a state-compliant model, so it comes with one 10-round magazine. Keep in mind it still has a threaded barrel, however. Potential buyers from restricted states should keep this in mind. For those who do not live in restricted states it is a simple matter to replace the magazine with one of a higher capacity. A pair of hex wrenches are included in the box for rear sight adjustment and charging handle removal. This rifle is brand new in the box and ready to go!
