Description:
The French Adrian helmet was introduced in 1915 as the first modern steel combat helmet and was issued to French troops fighting in the trenches of World War I. Other countries quickly realized the value of a steel helmet and adopted the concept of providing helmets for their soldiers, albiet it in a variety of differing designs. But the French must be credited with being the first with the Adrian.  The helmet was improved in 1926 resulting the Adrian M26. The M26 was easier to produce and provided better protection.

The Adrian design is unique among steel helmets with a raised crest on top. The crest covers the ridge vents on the helmet and is designed with a little bit of French artistic flare. The helmet is made out of manganese steel. French helmets sport a disc on the front to denote which branch of their military it was issued to.

The M26 Adrian helmet you see here is in excellent condition with good original paint and black leather liner. It has no dents, cracks, or loose or missing rivets. The crest shows some scratches from use. This helmet was issued to the French infantry as evidenced by its flaming bomb emblem and the raised letters, "RF", which stand for Republique Francais (French Republic). The helmet does not have a chin strap.

If you are a military helmet collector or just interested in World War II militaria, here is an opportunity for you to have an Adrian; the helmet that started it all!
