Description:
1912 Colt Military 1911. This is a very early 2nd Army contract pistol with factory original charcoal high polish finish. Colt discontined this finsh around serial # 2400 and some of the earlier Navy contract pistols did not have this finish so these are quite rare to say the least. This pistol is all original with the exception of the grip screws which are obvious replacemeants as well as the magazine being a later one. It has the correct early unmarked barrel. The magazine catch lock is the first dimpled type. The recoil spring plug is without the punched spring retaining feature. The mainspring housing pin is doomed on both sides. The rear sight has the early round top profile. It has the 1st type circled rampant Colt on the left rear of the slide without the 1913 patent date added. The rear of the slide has the proper horizontal H with serifs. The finish shows wear and handling throughout. Overall it rates about 55%. The slide to frame fit is tight. The bore is mostly bright with strong lands and grooves. It has a few small areas of patchy frost. Overall it rates an 8 out of 10. The grips are in good condition and do show some scattered wear and compressions in several areas. This should make a nice addition to any advanced collection as these early contract pistols almost never come up for sale.
