Description:
"NSN, circa 1800's, .58 caliber, 36.25"" octagonal to round smoothbore barrel. Metal is a smooth grey patina, barrel is marked ""London"" with Private tower proof marks. Lock plate is marked with ""Circle-Fox"", rear of hammer is marked ""Wheeler & Son"" Stock has been lightly refinished at some point with a repair visible through the lock mortise and wrist area. ""1828"" is stamped vertically and horizontally below the trigger guard. Action holds at half and full cock. This musket is pictured on page 91 of Jim Gordon's ""Great Gun Makers of the Early West Volume I and was part of his personal collection.
