We have identified it as a Model 1851 as it generally fits the pattern. The overall length is approx. 51"". The 35.5"" round 59 caliber smooth bore barrel has a fine bore. The barrel is equipped with a block with blade front and adjustable swiss rear sight marked with the Swiss cross over S and 48. The barrel is stamped 48 on the left oblique flat, the oval ELG Belgian proof on the top flat, and a star over Z over an ""arrow"" forward of the bolster. The barrel has an even smooth brown patina. The lock and hammer are unmarked and have an even plum patina. The trigger guard and two bands are stamped with a Swiss cross over C. The stock, with an added finish coat, is fine with no chips or cracks, and only minimal wear. The top of the wrist has a round plug where a tang sight may have been installed. The two swivels and ramrod (slightly short) are present. The action functions correctly with the exception that the trigger will release the hammer at half cock. This musket is worthy of further research. Price: $1,575.00 Antique: Yes |
