Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are extra proud to offer this stunning example of Marlin's first shotgun, the model 1898. This one is decked out in C grade, which entailed factory engraving and checkered extra select figured walnut. Made in the year of our Lord 1903, she certainly doesn't look 120 years old. This pump gun must have been somebody's pride and joy, as she received good care to stay in this condition. The original blue has turned to plum on the barrel and magazine tube, with some thinning spots near the muzzle, carry points, and action. The receiver has silvered out, but the Conrad Ulrich designed engraving is still sharp and clear. This pattern was used on all the early Marlin pump guns when the C grade was ordered. The barrel stampings are also sharp and clear, telling me that this gun was used carefully and kept cleaned and oiled. She can be taken down in a few seconds, and put back together just as fast. The 30 inch fluid steel barrel is choked full, and the bore is very good. The top of the receiver has some of the finest matting we have seen on any scatter gun, and is also in very good condition. Even the hard rubber butt plate is almost void of wear and tear. Back to that walnut, this is the most figured wood we have seen on this model, and my photos do not do it justice. If you have been looking for the right Marlin shotgun to collect, or for investment, but want the added clout of a factory engraved high grade in high condition, then look no further.
