Description:
Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are Brit proud to offer this rarely seen invention of Lt. Francis Bacon of the Royal Marine Artillery, the double barrel bolt action shotgun. He received a patent for the design in 1870. This was an era when gunmakers were trying to offer the "next big thing", which would put them on the map and bring in lots of cash. This very interesting option did not catch on, and very few were produced. Even fewer made it across the pond to our nation. This gun, number 11, is the lowest number we have observed, with all but our other gun bearing a 2 digit serial number. It is also interesting to note that they seemed to be a work in progress, as easily recognizable changes can be seen from one example to another. This early gun requires that you depress the rectangular button on top of the bolt before it will open. It also has the classic Bacon feature of a removable ejection port restrictor. I assume that would allow the empties to be held for reloading, or free to fall to the ground upon ejecting. This gunmaker is so obscure, it was not listed in the book British Gunmakers, by Nigel Brown. She is a 12 bore, with 27 1/4 inch fluid steel tubes. That is the origianl length, and I believe the barrels started at an even number before the bolts were fitted. The end result is 27 1/4 inches from the beginning of the chamber to the muzzles. The bores are full bright, with a few patches of light pitting, and the breech bolts slide smoothly. The empty shells are ejected into a large area behind the chambers, and fall through a port for bottom ejection. The nicely figured and checkered stock yields an LOP of 14 inches, topped with a checkered butt and classy heel and toe metal caps.. One thing is for certain, this shotgun will generate more conversation at your safe than your highest grade break open double. If you have been looking for the right double, but want one that no one else has, then look no further. If you claim both of these guns we offer, you will likely be the top collector of Bacons in this country. If you already have one, and add these two to your collection, you will become the Grand Poobah.
