About Us: I am not a dealer and I do not have an FFL. I am an old codger paring down my accumulation of guns - some collectable, some nostalgic, some good shooters and some just cool, or at least I thought so when I bought them. Please check out my other listings. Reasonable offers considered. If you're interested, let's talk. A signed FFL copy is required for all modern firearms, and shipment will be made through an FFL dealer. Thank you for your interest.

Description:
This Winchester Model 42 has been fitted with what I believe to be a Moneymaker ventilated rib with square posts.  It is not marked and is NOT a Simmons rib. The rib has an ivory center bead, and the barrel appears to have been reblued with the rib installation.  The bore is bright.  Proof marks are not visible, covered by the rib.  The receiver does not appear to have been reblued.  There is high edge wear and minor discoloration from soldering the rib to the top of the receiver (Picture 11). The buttstock and forend are matching highly figured walnut, with 20-line borderless checkering.  Close examination shows a well executed chip repair at the top left of the receiver (Picture 11).  The grip cap appears to be rosewood (Picture 15).   Specifications are as follows:

Year of Manufacture:  1963
Barrel length:  26 inches
Chamber:  3 inches
Choke:  Modified
LOP:  14 1/4 in to a White Line hard rubber buttplate
DAC:  1 5/8 inches
DAH:  2 1/4 inches
Weight: 6 lb. 6 oz.

This Model 42 was one of the last produced,  and although it is certainly not original, it is very pleasing in appearance with one of the most attractive stocks with matching forend I have encountered.  Here is a chance to own a vent rib 42 with exquisite wood for little more than the cost of a good condition plain barrel field gun..
