Description:
***   SOLD   ***   Handsome and excellent condition 12 bore Boss Pigeon Gun with two sets of barrels – 30” for box bird pigeons and 28” for Columbaire and game. Excellent case coloring and barrel bluing. Presented in its leather case with maker’s label and full accessories including Boss oil bottle and snap caps. Highly engraved by Sumner, the action, fences, and trigger guard have no fewer than 21 rosettes! Lots of residual case coloring. Restocked by David Trevallion in highly figured Tessier French walnut straight and sturdy through the wrist. Weight with the 30” barrels is 7lb 4oz; with the 28” barrels it weighs 6lb 14oz. The perfect combination for the traveling shooter of today.

During the 1920’s and 30’s wealthy sportsmen flocked to Southern Europe to compete in the very active pigeon circuit of the day and to sample the local game shooting. According to the Boss Ledger this gun was ordered on 14 May 1931 by Mrs. Bayard Warren of Boston as a gift for her husband as can be seen on the scanned page from the Boss records to the left.

The steel chopperlump barrels are 30” and 28” in length and London nitro proofed for 2-3/4” chambers and 1-1/4 oz loads. The bluing is near perfect and the bores are shiny and bright. Both barrel sets are topped by a raised solid hand cross hatched tapered rib. The top of the right barrel on each set is inscribed “Boss & Co., 41 Albemarle Street. Piccadilly. London. W.” The top of the left barrel is inscribed “Made in England”. The righthand 30” barrel is bored 0.730” with a constriction of 0.020” for Half or Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.027”. The left hand 30” barrel is also bored 0.730” and has a constriction of 0.033” for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.027”. The right hand 28” barrel is bored 0.731” with a constriction of 0.006” for Light Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028”. The lefthand 28” barrel is also bored 0.731” with a constriction of 0.020” for Half or Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.027”.

The original owner required a 16” length of pull and so at some point in the recent past the gun was restocked by David Trevallion in highly figured European walnut with a straight hand grip and splinter forearm. The hand rubbed oil finish is in very good condition and the checkering is crisp. Stock dimensions are 15” to a checkered butt by 1-3/8” by 1-7/8”. Cast off for the righthanded shooter.

How many Boss pigeon guns in this condition become available in a lifetime? You know the answer to that question. Isn’t it time to reward yourself? Life is short. Write the check.
