The Model 740 was built to be a Woods-runners' gun, a quick handling rifle to carry for any meat or threat animal in the woods. Thousands of these were made. This one has a rather plain walnut stock, peep sight, and semi-beavertail fore end. The barrel code "XC" would place this in the 1955 time frame. .30-06 Springfield
