Description:
*** PRICE REDUCED ***   This Winchester Model 70 rifle was made in June 1957 and is marked “U.S. PROPERTY” on the left side of the receiver. The Bolt has the matching serial number, 409738 marked on the underside of the bolt. It is a Heavy Weight Target Model chambered in .30-06 with a 24” barrel. The receiver is slotted to receive stripper clips.
The Sight is a LYMAN TARGETSPOT SCOPE packaged in a wooden case marked “USMC PROPERTY”. The scope is marked “SUPER TARGETSPOT / USMC” and is 20 Power.
The rifle is in excellent condition. The bore is bright and sharp, it looks new and gages “0.0” using a M1 Garand Muzzle wear gage. The floor plate shows some minor scratches, but all other metal surfaces are factory new. The target stock has 4 or 5 very modest bruises, otherwise it appears new.
The scope case looks identical to the one shown on the NRA Museum homepage with the Winchester M70. The case is in excellent condition and stores both the scope and rubber eyecup. The scope has clear optics and fine Crosswires that are intact and fully functional. The mounts are ¼ minute click adjustable. The scope tube is in excellent condition, the parallax-adjustable objective lens shows finish loss. Perhaps a sunshade was mounted. The original two screw in lens covers are included as is the rubber eye cup. These Super Targetspot scopes were manufactured from 1942 until 1978. The scope serial number is 1468, I can find no serial number listing for these scopes, but it seems an early number.
I have no history on the rifle / scope. They were bought together by a PA gun shop from a family member of the deceased owner and were subsequently sold to an astute collector who traded them to me.
This is a unique opportunity to obtain a great Winchester Sniper rifle for your collection. Cal. .30-06 with a 24” barrel.  SN: 409738.  FFL or C&R REQUIRED
