Description:
ORIGINAL BRITISH PERCUSSION DOUBLE BARREL CAVALRY OFFICER’S PISTOL BY WILLIAM BOND OF LONDON CIRCA 1830’S. 11 ½” o/a with 6” smoothbore .60 caliber barrels signed on rib “W. BOND 59 LOMBARD STREET LONDON”. Classic form of Cavalry Officer’s pistols of that era of “carbine bore” which is .60 cal. with the advantage of an officer’s being able to have his orderly use round balls from Ordnance stores to load his pistols as opposed to having to have him melt and cast them. Additionally the pistol is equipped with a stirruped ramrod for use on horseback. Early form of original percussion locks and drum bolsters. Locks which are signed “W.BOND” are equipped with hammer safety’s the left of which is missing the spur. Checkered walnut stock with silver “STAR BURST” engraved butt cap and silver wrist escutcheon. Silver wedge escutcheons as well. Very fine quality by William Bond who was one of London’s best makers of the period (died 1844). Very good with wear and patina. Minor wood loss on forend. Working order and very good bores. Unrestored and as found and a candidate for restoring as it is scarce and of fine quality.
