ORIGINAL MEXICAN WAR & CIVIL WAR TRYON U.S. MODEL 1841 MISSISSIPPI RIFLE DATED 1847 W/ORIG. SABER BAYONET ATTACHMENT. All original as altered before and during the Civil War, complete and matching. 33” rifled .58 caliber barrel with original rear and front sights and with “V” and “P” Ordnance proofs at the left breech. Lock stamped “TRYON/U.S.” and “PHILADA/US/1847”. Stock with Mexican War original cartouche as well as Civil War era cartouche when it was re-bored from .54 cal. to .58 cal. and the saber bayonet lug added at that time as many were. Very good overall with original patina on metal and excellent markings. Small chip from inside lip of hammer. Nice brass with mellow unpolished surfaces. Excellent screws. Stock lightly worn and refinished long ago. Old hair line age check to rear of lock plate. Both Ordnance Sub-inspector’s cartouches clearly visible. Lock in good working order and good visible rifling. Scarce with only 5000 Tryon Model 1841 Mississippi Rifles manufactured and many still in use by the North and South during the Civil War. Reasonably priced as well.
