Description:
This is a rare and exceptionally fine untouched German horn for a wheellock made from a single piece of flatted horn, with horn base plug secured with small pins. The overall length is 9.25”. I date this horn to about 1650-1675. The iron and brass spanner, with a decorative washer, is inset and can be used on either side of the horn. There are light spherical scratches on the horn surface, revealing it was used to wind a lock. The horn has an extraordinarily nice and beautifully turned spout. The upper and lower edges of the body are fluted, and the body shows polish from use. Wheellocks were used mainly in the 17th c. but continued to be used into the early 18th c. as sporting guns. The working life of a horn continued after the wheellock era. I am not a dealer. This is from my personal collection. Shipping will be determined by the buyer's location.

I am selling two wheellock flat horns. Each is listed seperately.
