Description:
"

Serial number 25334. Made in 1869. 44 RF caliber with a 20" barrel. This is a deluxe gun with silver plated finish covering 90% of the barrel. The silver finish is tarnish and starting to “bubble" in areas. The wood is very good with deluxe figure. The butt stock appears to be a period replacement. The back of the lower tang is marked “F. E. Stark / Brownsville" Frederick Stark Sr. was born in New York City in 1836. Mr. Stark was Lieutenant in the Union Army stationed in Brownsville. He there met his wife and started a family. After the Civil war he was listed as a Jewler. He then became a clerk for Cameron County before being employed by the customs office in the 1880s. He eventually moved out to California which is where is died in 1903. He had numerous children that appear to have remained in or around Brownsville and South Texas. Very Fine example of a Texas Marked Winchester 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine!
