Description:
Handsome and rare 20 bore Dickson Round Action with two sets of barrels. Only thirty-nine 20 bore Round Actions were ever made according to the Maker. Delivered to H. H. Inglis Esq. of Glencorse on August 7,1889 just in time for the “Glorious Twelfth”. Dickson 4161 has Patent Use Number 211 stamped on the water table. The John Dickson & Son logo is displayed in a banner on both sides of the action body and there are gold cocking indicators on the top strap. It has the one-pin three-piece ejector system. It is Sumner engraved and retains the preponderance of nicely re-done case coloring. Professionally re-stocked by Dennis Potter in highly figured Circassian walnut. Presented in a leather case with maker’s label, snap caps, keys and an outer cover. Weighs 5lb 5oz with the 28” barrels and 5lb 4oz with the 27” barrels. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to own a rare and very desirable smallbore Round Action.  ***   The original 28” nitro steel barrels have been sleeved(but are not marked “Sleeved”) and beautifully re-blacked with a deep rich finish. They are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells and topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib. The top of the right barrel is inscribed “John Dickson & Son”. The top of the left barrel is inscribed “21 Frederick Street . Edinburgh”. The right barrel is bored 0.610 with a constriction of 0.011 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032. The left barrel is also bored 0.610 and has a constriction of 0.021 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.033. The barrels were nitro proofed in Birmingham.  ***   The 27” nitro steel chopper lump barrels were made by another and London nitro proofed in 1979. The barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells and topped by a raised solid concave gamestyle rib. The top of the right barrel is inscribed “John Dickson & Son”. The top of the left barrel is inscribed “21 Frederick Street . Edinburgh”. The right barrel is bored 0.618 with a constriction of 0.000 for Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.029. The left barrel is bored 0.615 with a constriction of 0.003 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.030. Great choking for upland gunning.   ***   The straight hand stock and splinter forearm were restocked in highly figured Circassian by Dennis Potter. The hand rubbed oil finish is in excellent condition and the checkering is crisp. It is finished off with a leather recoil pad. Stock dimensions are 14-7/16” by 1-1/4” by 1-7/8”. Slightly cast-off for the righthanded shooter.   ***   If you have ever shot over a Scottish grouse moor then you already know why you should own this handsome and great handling shotgun. Only 39 Dickson 20-bore Round Actions were ever made and this is your chance to own one. Life is short. Write the check.   ***   Please note that the photographs are part of the description.
