Description:
***   REDUCED   ***   Handsome and lethal William Ford 20 bore bar action hammergun with highly figured nitro Damascus barrels and loads of residual case coloring. William Ford was highly regarded Birmingham gunmaker and this great little 20 bore proves the point. Low rebounding hammers remain below the shooter’s line of sight when cocked and the action may also be opened when the barrels are cocked. Ford no. 18288 was made circa 1891-92 and weighs 5lb 8oz. Great gun for game or clays.   ***   The 26-1/2” nicely figured nitro Damascus barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. Rumors to the contrary notwithstanding, 2-1/2” ammunition is being imported into the US again, principally from Gamebore and RST is producing these desirable low pressure shotshells as wellThe barrels are topped by a raised, solid crosshatched rib. The top of the right barrel is inscribed “William Ford” and the top of the left is inscribed “4 Price Street (Late 15 St Marys Row Birmingham”. The right barrel is bored 0.618 with a constriction of 0.005 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032. The left barrel is bored 0.619 and has a constriction of 0.020 for Full choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028. The barrels are nitro proofed for 7/8oz loads. The bores are shiny but typical of guns of this era there is some very mild pitting near the muzzles. Plenty of wall thickness throughout.   ***   The highly figured English walnut stock has a Prince of Wales style grip and splinter forearm with an ebony tip. Stock dimensions are 14-5/8” including a thin horn buttplate by 1-1/2” by 2”. Cast off for the righthand shot. The stock has some handling marks and the checkering shows a little wear.  ***   Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance and related charges. I give a three-day non-firing inspection and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense.

***   Come and see this great double and other fine shotguns at the MacNab booth at the Southern Side by Side Championship & Exhibition April 25th – April 28th, 2024 at Deep River Sporting Clays in Sanford, NC.
