Description:
This rare and very desirable Special Order 12 bore “Lightweight Model” pair of Dickson Round Actions was delivered on 30 July 1937 and game scene engraved by Harry Kell. According to the Maker Kell engraved at most 35 Dicksons making this a very rare pair. The No.1 gun features blackcocks and waterfowl. The No. 2 gun depicts grey partridges and pheasants. Dickson Round Actions were designed for the fast-maneuvering red grouse and grey partridges of the British Isles and with their deft handling and great feel are perfect for upland gamebirds around the world. The straighthand stocks and splinter forearms are made of nicely figured European walnut with a handrubbed oil finish.

Consecutively serial numbered 7376 and 7377 with Patent Use numbers 1818 and 1819 respectively. Both guns have their original barrels, intercepting sears, gold gilded lockwork, double triggers and the reliable and rugged Dickson ejector system. Presented in their fitted brass cornered leather case with maker’s label and accessories. Both of these special “lightweight” models weigh 6lb 1oz. Easy to carry and swing on fast moving upland gamebirds.

The barrels on both guns are 27” in length and are chambered for 2-3/4” shotshells. They are topped by a raised concave gamestyle rib which is inscribed “John Dickson & Son 52 Hanover Street Edinburgh”. The bores for both sets of barrels are shiny and bright and the deep rich bluing is in very good condition. Barrel Set for No. 1 Gun: The right barrel is bored 0.732 with a constriction of 0.000 for Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.020. The left barrel is bored 0.731 and has a constriction of 0.005 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.022. Barrel set for No. 2 Gun:  The right barrel is bored 0.731 with a constriction of 0.010 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.020. The left barrel is also bored 0.731 and has a constriction of 0.015 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.024.

Both guns have straighthand stocks and splinter forearms. The wood is made of nicely figured European walnut with a hand rubbed satin oil finish. The gold initial plate on No. 1 is inscribed with “J.L.” over “1980”. The checkering is crisp and both stocks are finished with a 3/4” black ebony buttplate.  No. 2’s initial plate is blank. No. 1 and No. 2 Guns: Stock dimensions are 15” by 1-7/16” by 2-3/16”. Cast off for the righthand shot.

If you have ever shot over a Scottish grouse moor then you already know why you should own these guns. Round Actions are scarce and time is short. Isn’t time to reward yourself?
