Offered for sale is an early "Henry" marked 1866 Winchester rifle in .44 rimfire. Serial # 20451 on lower tang under the lever. This rifle has been completely refinished but very nicely done years ago and is now starting to aquire a nice patina on the frame, and the barrel blue is still bright as refinished. The "Henry" barrel address has been recut when refinished. It is the original barrel as evidenced by the early chamber style cut where the early bolt face fits when closed. Also, the "Winchester " marking didn't occur until the #23000 range.The rifle still has the original early solid bolt, small loop lever, also has sling swivels. A very NICE looking rifle and still cycles nicely and the wood fits very nicely as refinished- not sanded shy. The buttplate is numbered to the frame, but appears to be restamped. The bore has roughness as typical on these early blackpowder guns. A nice looking, functional, early "Improved Henry" rifle for the money.
