Description:
NSN, approximately .48 Caliber, 2 7/8" barrels with fine, smooth bores. These are handsome pistols, made ca. 1810 & 1820, that have tap-action pans that allow for sequential firing of the top and bottom barrels. The brass frames and original, assembly-numbered barrels have a pleasant, yellow-ochre patina throughout. The barrels have scattered small handling blemishes, while the box frames have engraved martial panoplies on both sides with "LACY" and "LONDON" on the left and right sides respectively. The taps, frizzens, cocks, and sliding safety latches are mottled gray and plum-brown throughout, while the actions of both pistols are firm and fully functional. The smooth, bag-shaped walnut grips are in very good condition, although one has a slightly separated knot on the left side of the tang. There were two Lacys working in London at the turn of the 19th century: John George Lacy and William Lacy, and it is almost certainly one of these two who built the guns. These tap-action pistols are not commonly seen, especially on this side of "The Pond," and these examples are in fine overall condition. Antique
