This Belgian rolling block rifle started life as a military musket and was later engraved and altered to a sporting rifle. The approx. 38"" round barrel (with short octagon chamber area) has a very good bright bore with strong rifling and frosting in the grooves. The bore measures 12.7mm at the muzzle. The military bayonet lug and guide and sights are still present. The left flat of the barrel has the Liege proof and oval ELG proof with the serial number on the flat above. All the metal has a smooth brown patina. The receiver, hammer, breechblock, trigger guard, screw heads, and buttplate tang are tastefully line and scroll engraved. The buttstock retains its military configuration with checkering being added at the wrist. It is very good overall with usage wear and a small chip at the upper left tang intersection with the receiver. The forearm has been shortened to approx. 12"" with the tip rounded and lightly fluted. It is checkered overall and a sling swivel has been added. The overall condition is vey good. The action functions correctly. This very nicely engraved sporterized Belgian rolling block rifle is ready for any collection featuring European military or sporting arms.
