New York: A Belgium Boxlock Under & Over 28 Bore Made for A & F and Imported by them in 1936, A&F put it in inventory on April 30,1936, On December 1,1936 it was sold to F. H. Bedford Jr, He was a vice-president of Standard Oil of New Jersey, Built on a slim 28 bore frame, A Best 300 Series Action Body with Double Underlugs with Double Bite into those underlugs plus a double lug top cross bolt, 26" Ejector Demi Bloc solid rib barrels, The original bores & chokes at .546" .013 & .027" (Mod. & Full), Original 2 3/4" chambers, Double triggers, Bolstered frame, 3 piece game forend with a frontal release, Open pistol grip stock at 14 13/16 x 1 1/2 x 2 5/8" over a 7 5/8" leather pad, Cast-Off for the right hand, 5 lbs. 6 oz., 35% coverage of well-cut scroll engraving, The barrels retain original blue at 96%, 85% original case colors on the frame, The wood is extremely solid with original finish and remains at 90% with typical handling marks, The checkering is at 92%, The bores are excellent plus. It is smack on the face and tight as a tick. The whole is cased in a period leather trunk. This is a very nice 1936 28 bore game gun built on a true 28 bore frame.

Mr. Frederick Henry Bedford Jr. bought this piece from Abercrombie & Fitch on December 1, 1936, for $150.00. This gun cost A&F $75.53 plus 9.8% excise tax for a total cost of $82.93. A&F in their 1936 catalog offered these Belgium imports from 12 to 410 bore with 26", 28" or 30" barrels. In their specifications they mentioned the barrels and lumps are one piece (Demibloc Barrels), treble Greener cross bolt and a bolstered frame. In 1937 these imports were increased in price to $175.00. In 1937 they offered Smith Shotguns from $43.20 to $1196, Francotte Guns from $175 to $1100 and Woodward Custom Built at $935 and up. Those were special days from a great retailer responsible in bringing in quality guns and selling best guns at Madison Avenue at 45th Street in New York, City.
