Description:
This is a handsome sword that measures 39" overall, with a 33" straight, single-edged blade having narrow double fullers and half-length etched panels on both sides of the blade. The steel has an overall bright original factory polish with a few spots of mild scabbard wear, mostly near the tip, and the etched panels have delicate filigree with the Swiss Cross in sunburst on the reverse face. The long ricasso has a WKC knight’s head trademark on the obverse, with a Zurich retailer’s mark on the reverse, "VEREINIGTE A. KNOLL / SIDLER & HESS A.G. / ZURICH & BERN." The hilt has a pierced steel guard with Swiss Cross and vine motif, a single forward-swept quillon, and dove head pommel with thumbprint backstrap. The shagreen grip is in very good shape, with minor surface wear, while the braided wire wrap is intact. An old, embroidered cloth and bullion wire portepee is affixed to the hilt. The steel scabbard is in very good shape, with some scattered specks of dark freckling, and some small patches of brown oxidation at and around the drag. The sword rates very good-fine condition overall.
