This Steyr Kropatschek M1886 is an Infantry Rifle that has received the smokeless conversion. This can be validated by the rear sight that is graduated out to 2200 M. It has a full length 8 round tube magazine under the barrel. This rifle is marked on the receiver with M.1886 and :- Œ.W.F.G. STEYR / 1886. There is a royal insignia on the receiver and barrel. It is chambered in 8X60mmR.
All serial numbers that we have found on this rifle match accept the bolt assembly, which all bolt parts seem to match themselves. This is extremely common for this model rifle. The bolt contains a large amount of preserving Grease from long-term storage preparation. We would recommend that bolt be cleaned prior to firing.
Both sling swivels and side mounted cleaning rod present.
The exterior condition is consistent with long service. It has much of the bluing color, with scratches and dents as would be seen from a rifle this age. There is still a lot of the original bluing around the receiver and chamber area. Handguard is missing as is common with these rifles. The bore has well defined lands and grooves. We will leave the final cleaning process to the end buyer. We have no concerns about this rifle performing the way that it should with the appropriate ammunition.
