Description:
NSN, 1 1/4" bore at the muzzle with approximately .89 caliber bore diameter, 14 1/2" part octagon barrel with cannon-type muzzle and a very good bore. This is a very handsome example with the brass barrel and fittings having a mellow, yellow-ochre patina throughout. There is a single spot of impact damage on the right side of the barrel breech just above the touchhole. The lock is marked "Parker" (probably William Parker of London 1794 & 1841) and has a mild pewter gray patina throughout. The spring-loaded bayonet has an 11" angular blade with a single narrow fuller and hollow-ground flutes. Traces of the original blue remain on about 2/3 of the blade, with lightly freckled gray metal on the balance. The deployant spring is still strong and the latch locks firmly. The pin-fastened walnut stock has some minor handling marks and small blemishes scattered about the otherwise fine lacquered finish, and there are no cracks or breaks in the wood. The original horn-tipped ramrod is still present. This is an exceptional example of a British flintlock blunderbuss, and would make a splendid addition to any collection. Antique
