Neat...very late production of the Early 99R with double groove forend ring. Note this is the early version of the R with the double groove ring (resembles the border on checkering). What makes this unique is the definitive book on 99's by Murry states this the lst version ceased production in 1949 it further states that in 1950 they were drilled and tapped at the factory for scope mounting as this one is...Lever boss date code confirms 1950. Conditon is all original * (except rear sight removed to make way for scope clearance apparanlty) and a sling swivel stud in butt stock. It is otherwise fully correct and in desirable 250 Savage, Light carry wear on receiver but otherwise exceptional in every way...no marks or flaws worthy of mention on wood or metal; cleaerly well cared for and rarely used in the 73 yrs since this was made...On thin that is interestiing is the barrel is Chicopee falls, not Utica.
Excellent case color remains on the parts of the leve not exposed to sunlight
Does NOT have the common split behind the upper tang...Cond is really exceptional for its age.
