Description:
Listed is a Rare Winchester model 70 Super Grade Featherweight in 358 Win. caliber that was built by Winchester in 1956.  The very rare 358 win. caliber was only mfg. in 1955 and discontined in 1957.  This Winchester Super grade featherweight rifle is in very good condition plus with normal handling and storage marks that one would expect from a 68 year old rifle used but well taken care of by it's previous owners.  This rifle has the aluminum floor plate stamped  -Super Grade-, full wrap around forestock checkering without the usual diamond ( because the forearm screw was omitted for this model) a Monte Carlo cheek piece.  The 22" tapered barrel is free-bedded in a graceful American walnut stock formed for weight reduction.   A steel pistol grip cap, molded forestock tip, detachable sling swivels with inlaid bases front and rear, front gold sight, rear is a Lyman no.16A folding leaf.  The bore is excellent and the Super Grade 1 1/4" swivels are still present on the firearm.  The bolt components are "jeweled" including the breech bolt body, extractor, bolt stop extension, extractor ring and the serial number on the bolt matches the frame; magazine follower is also "jeweled".  The underside of the barrel is stamped "SUPER" and the recoil lug has a reverse single "S" stamped on the flat.  This rifle has a Winchester solid red recoil pad installed which is correct for the Super Grade Featherweight 1950s era and being that the 358 win.  caliber was not cataloged for this rifle thus any example would be a special ordered rifle.  Super Grade Featherweight rifles were only cataloged in four calibers 243 win., 308 win., 270 win., and 30-06 sprg. and production quantity mfg. was 930 rifles total.  A Super Grade Featherweight rifle chambered in any the four listed calibers are rare but one in a uncataloged caliber is ULTRA Rare and would have had to be "special ordered" as the experts advise in 358 win and 264 win calibers.   The Winchester experts, not to mention any person by name, state that less than 10 were Special Ordered in 358 win. Caliber in the Super Grade Featherweight rifle thus the winchester hard rubber recoil pad could have been specified when this rifle was ordered !!!!????   How many 358 win. SGF rifles have you seen in your travels ????  The "Rifleman's Rifle book on Winchester's Model 70, author Roger C. Rule" on page 260 better explains Non-Cataloged Atypical Chamberings where Supergrade Featherweight  rifles in 358 win. caliber have been confirmed as being manufactured but were not located as of the date of the books writing in 1982.  This Super Grade Featherweight rifle in 358 win caliber is one of the true Holy Grails model 70 Winchesters and a rare piece of Winchester History.   All questions will be answered in the order received and additional photos will be sent on request.   It's your responsibility to know your State and Federal Firearm Laws. I will consider a quality Winchester 71 or 86 as partial payment.
