LEONARD .38 Caliber LONG RIFLE NH Octagonal Barrel, Half-Stock, Double Set Triggers Here we present an antique George O. Leonard Long Rifle manufactured circa the 1860s in Keene, New Hampshire. George Leonard was a noted gunsmith in the early 1860s and crafted rifles for some of Berdan’s Sharpshooters, one of which is on display at the Gettysburg Memorial Battlefield Museum. This rifle puts Leonard’s craftsmanship on display. George was the son of Artemas Leonard, who was a very accomplished Vermont gunmaker in Saxons River between about 1848 through 1860 and made some of the finest target rifles of his time. Unfortunately, he died young, and George continued his father’s business, moving from Saxons River over into New Hampshire. This rifle features an octagonal barrel with a turned down muzzle in .38 caliber. It has barrel mounted sights, though there was likely once a tang-mounted peep sight. Half-length stock with a pewter cap and iron trigger guard, butt plate, lock, and patchbox. Double set triggers. The overall condition is very good. Original finish. The action is excellent with crisp set trigger. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The forestock has been repaired with expert grafts and has a repair at the toe of the butt stock; otherwise solid throughout. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 31-3/8 inches. Caliber: .38 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
