Antique REMINGTON New Model ARMY Revolver .44 Henry Rimfire 6-Shooter
Made Circa 1863-65 and Converted in the 1870s
Here we present an antique Remington New Model Army .44 Rimfire Conversion Revolver, made circa 1865 in Ilion, New York. These revolvers were strong, with fine craftsmanship. Samuel Colt’s revolvers utilized an “open top” design, whereas Remington used the solid frame designed by Fordyce Beals when he was working for Eli Whitney Jr. We all know which design would ultimately endure. The New Model Army’s were in production from about 1863-1875. They were issued to the US Army during the American Civil War and after. Once the Rollin White Patent—held by Smith & Wesson until 1869—expired many of these percussion guns began to be updated to metallic cartridge.
This one in particular was converted to .44 Henry Rimfire and would have been a good companion to a Henry or Winchester Model 1866 lever action rifle.
The overall condition is very good. Some original blue finish remains. Numbers match on the barrel, trigger guard, and frame. The action is excellent and strong. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The grips are solid.
