Description:
BOHEMIAN Antique JACOB JUNK FLINTLOCK Musket RELIEF CARVED STOCK .63

Early 1800s CZECHOSLOVAKIAN Made Smoothbore

Here we present an antique Jacob Junk Smoothbore Musket made circa the early 1800s in Teplitz-Schonau, then called Toplitz, Czechoslovakia, just on the border of Germany. Over time, there have been different variations of spelling for this city, as indicated by the markings on this gun. Jacob Junk was a gunmaker here in the first quarter of the 19th century. At the time he was gunmaking, it was called Bohmen, or more commonly referred to as Bohemia. Junk started making guns somewhere around 1810 and continued until his death prior to 1850.

This musket features a full-length stock with gorgeous carvings throughout. The stock is very Germanic with a wide butt stock with just a brass plate at the heel, nicely blended flush with the wood. Carved wooden trigger guard.

This would have been very handy to carry for the forester or hunter while hunting in the early 1800s. This would have been the epitome of a practical European shotgun that would have been used to put food on the table or protect the homestead from unwanted intruders, including both man and beast. With its large bore and fairly long barrel, this piece was built primarily for fowling, upland and waterfowl. Smoothbore guns then, like today, were highly valued for provision, pest control and homestead defense.

The overall condition is very good. Original patina. The signature is clear. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock is solid with a bit of repairwork to the forestock near the muzzle. A fantastic piece of weaponry with both form and function!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 34-1/4 inches.
