Description:
ENGRAVED Antique SMITH & WESSON No. 2 “OLD ARMY” .32 Cal. Revolver

Made Late in the Civil War in 1865

Here we present an antique Engraved Smith & Wesson Model No. 2 Old Army Revolver, made circa 1865 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This revolver is interesting for several reasons. The first is that it is engraved and purportedly by the shop of L.D. Nimschke. Louis Daniel Nimschke, 1832-1904, was a master firearms engraver of the 19th century who engraved over 5,000 firearms between 1850 and 1904 for Colt's Patent Fire Arms Co., Winchester, Remington, Sharps, Smith & Wesson, Henry, Manhattan Arms, Marlin Firearms, and Stevens Arms.

The second reason that this revolver is interesting is that its serial number is the last one considered to have possible Civil War usage according to Norm Flayderman in his famous guide. The war ended officially on April 9, 1865, though other skirmishes continued to take place until word spread completely.
The overall condition is very good. Original finish/patina. The engraving is clear. The action (hammer/trigger) is strong, though the cylinder does not index and lockup reliably. The rosewood grips show some wear and remain solid and in good shape. Numbers match, including the grips. The interior of the right grip panel is marked “W W 19”—the significance of which is not known.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 6 inches.

Caliber: .32 Rimfire

Overall condition as seen in photos.
