Griffin & Howe .308 Winchester. Based on a Kurz Mauser action serial 98196 (5x matching: underside, bolt release, shroud, cocking piece, trigger), rifle number 1042 has a 24-inch Poldi Anti-Corro barrel (originally a .250-3000 rebored/chambered to .308 Winchester). Features include a banded front sight (matted ramp), banded sling swivel stud, integral quarter rib (matted, two folding leafs marked "50 YDS" & "200 YDS" - each with sighting lines), jeweled bolt body/extractor/follower, checkered bolt knob (two panels), two-position safety, Lyman aperture sight (absent riser), Talley mounts (double lever, 1-inch low), checkered trigger face and a tuned trigger. STOCK: Crafted from a blank with bold, full-length figure, formalities include a horn forend tip, 24 lines-per-inch wrap checkering with partial Mullered borders, pancake cheek rest (scalloped, shadow line), steel grip cap and a toe line stud. The action beds on metal pillars and is lightly glassed at the lug. ENGRAVING: A previous owner's initials appear in gold on the floorplate. Screw heads are engraved, timed and contoured. The toe line initial plate is blank. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 8.4 pounds (inclusive of mounts). Length-of-pull is 13.75 inches over the pad. CAPACITY: Five rounds, all feeding from the magazine. The extractor closes over single-fed rounds. Feeding/extraction/ejection are positive and smooth. CONDITION: The bore is strong and bright with sharp rifling. Metal finish is approximately 65 percent overall with sharp markings and tarnish over the grip cap. Wood is approximately 70 percent owing to a distribution of field impressions and scratches.
