Description:
The Brodie helmet is a steel combat helmet designed and patented in London in 1915 by John Leopold Brodie. Canadian helmet production commenced in 1940. The helmets were identical to the British original, except that the rubber "bumper" pads in the lining were only fitted to horizontal helmet band and not to the vertical bands. This helmet appears to be made from Hadfield manganese steel which denotes it as a combat grade shell but lacks any markings on the rim which means it did not make the grade for combat. These were past on to the department of Pensions and Health for use by the Air-Raids Precautions Service helmets. This one has a 7 1/2 lining produced by the Viceroy Manufacturing Co. in Toronto. The helmet is in excellent overall condition with original paint and finish. The helmet liner is in very good condition with some signs of wear. The rubber and foam parts are pliable and soft, the leather is slightly stiff. The chin strap is intact and functions. Please see pictures for further details.;
