Description:
Serial #54398, .440 RF, 3 1/4" octagon barrel with an about very good bore that has some areas of mild pitting along its length. This is a non-maker marked revolver that does have the Tranter "football" trademark on the left side of the frame at the barrel breech. The metal has no pitting or oxidation present, with the blue having turned to a smooth plum-brown over time, although some traces of original blue are still present on the swing arm for the pear-shaped ejector rod. The checkered walnut grip is in very good-near fine shape with some small handling marks, some flattening of the points, and an area of small impact marks on the back just below the knuckle. The action is very smooth in both single and double-action. These revolvers are very rarely seen chambered in rimfire cartridges, and the .440 is particularly scarce. This example is in very good-near fine condition and would make a splendid addition to any collection. Antique
