Description:
***   JUST IN FROM THE DICKSON WORKSHOP IN SCOTLAND   ***   J.D. Dougall guns are always of highest quality and beautifully fitted and finished. While the Edinburgh gunmakers took much of the limelight in the 19th century it was Dougall that really caught the attention of sportsman across the country with the introduction of his Lockfast gun and the success of his Glasgow business enabled him to open a London branch. The action is partially scroll engraved, engraving is crisp, and the    ***   action retains most of its case coloring. The gun is fitted with a gorgeous French walnut stock which is in excellent condition. Presented in its Brady style canvas & leather case with original maker’s label and a key! Dougall no. 4177 was made in 1896. Weighs 6lb 13oz.   ***   The replacement nitro steel barrels are 30” in length and are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. Rumors to the contrary notwithstanding, 2-1/2” ammunition is being imported into the US again, principally from Gamebore, ARMUSA, and RST is producing these desirable low pressure shotshells as well.  The gun was rebarreled by the maker in 1964 and is topped by a raised solid tapered rib. The rib is inscribed "J.D. Dougall & Sons 23 Gordon St. Glasgow".The bores are shiny and bright and the outside has deep rich bluing. The right barrel is bored 0.730 with a constriction of 0.010 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.037. The left barrel is also bored 0.730 and has a constriction of 0.025 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.032.   ***   The straighthand stock and splinter forearm are crafted from a gorgeous piece of French walnut. They are in excellent condition with a nice handrubbed oil finish and crisp checkering. Stock dimensions are 14-3/8” including a 3/4” recoil pad by 1-5/8” by 2-3/8”. Cast off for the right hand shot.  ***   Please note that the photographs are part of the description. Not for sale where prohibited by state or local laws. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period which begins when it arrives at the buyer’s FFL or specified address if the gun is classified as an Antique. Returns at buyer’s expense.   ***   US Agent for Vintage Guns from the John Dickson & Son Workshop
