Description:
A Syracuse NY Lfever, stampedI on the water table, but is is nicely engraved in a factory style emulating a F grade. Lefever made many special order guns, this could be one of them. The engraving looks like that produced by the factory having duck in flight over a marsh setting surrounded by scroll on the left side plate and a setter pointing a woodcock in field setting surrounded by scroll on the right side plate. The bottom of the receiver is engraved with scroll with the trigger guard bow having the monogram of the letter H engraved on it. This gun has a straight rib extension and no cocking indicators as found on a typical "1" grade. The fluid steel barrels with extractors measure 26" and are touching at the muzzel. The chokes are 0.04" right and 0 .44" left (skeet and extra full). The bores are very good with very frosting, there is no pitting. the chambers measure 2 3/4", There is a single front bead and the original bluing rates about 95%. The walnut stock is the hard to find capped semi pistol grip and measures 13 3/4" LOP including the Lefever monogram buttplate and a 1/4" black spacer. The buttplate may be a replacement. The DAC is 1 7/8" and DAH is 2 7/8", the cast appears netural. The overall weight is 6lbs 12.3oz. The side plates retain most of the original case colors while there is scattered case colors on the receiver in protected areas. The forend iron has a strong original case colors on the underside where protected by the wood, there are no case colors on the visible metal portion. The checking is very good on both the buttstock and forend. There are some light handling marks and scratches on the left side of the butt stock. There is a small chip in the forend wood on the left side near where the forward portion of the checkering ends.
