Description:
Excellent 12 gauge Brancquaert Model 5 Hammer Pigeon Gun.  Louis Brancquaert provided guns to his clients during the heydays of European Live Pigeon shooting.  This gun produced circa 1920-25, post-war and during the best shotgun production times for England and Belgium.  This robust 12 gauge gun enjoys original 2 3/4 chambers and 1 1/4 oz load proofs (see photos).   Gun weighs 7.2 pounds.  It boasts a Purdey-type hidden third bite, side clips, and an articulated front trigger.   Nickel steel barrels in excellent condition with length of  29 1/2 inches (75 cm).  Right barrel measures .726 inch with .025 inch choke, and the left barrel also measures .726 inch with .039 inch choke (plenty of material for modern choke adjustment).  Barrels tight on face.  Barrels perfect internally, with exterior showing minor wear from handling the past 100+ years.  The barrels are topped by a raised matted concave rib with gold front bead.  This gun has double triggers and extractors, the front trigger articulated.  Barrels fully in Belgian proof with original 12 gauge and 70mm chamber designations (see photos).

A straight stock and splinter fore-end of figured European walnut.  Stock dimensions are 15 1/8 inch LOP by 1 3/8 inch DAC and 1 7/8 inch DAH.  The stock has a 1 3/8 inch recoil pad, with a stock wood length of 13 3/4 inches, and is easily "pad-adjustable" to any customer desired LOP.    Subtle Cast Off for the right-handed shooter.  The buttstock shows small handling marks, but, as with the entire gun, no damages, cracks, dents, bulges, etc.

The action and fore-end iron are perfectly engraved with excellent rose and scroll engraving, finished in a French grey (see photos).  The name "Louis Brancquaert  (over)  Brussels" is engraved on the action bottom (see photo).    Beautiful rebounding hammers sit low when cocked so as to not interfere with shooter's line of sight.  Barrels tight on face.

Louis Brancquaert and several members of the Defourny family combined their talents and contacts to promote their guns in the very active European pigeon circuit of the 1920s.  Brancquaert was a well-known pigeon shooter who supplied his well-heeled friends with competition shotguns.  The enclosed handbook/catalog (copy) lists the championships won using Brancquaert guns.  Brancquaert maintained his shop on 202 Avenue d" Hippodrome in Brussels, moving guns from the Defourney shop to his in order to support his local business and his distributors throughout Europe.  This particular gun has a gold ducat on the fore-end, likely signifying royal bloodline ownership at the beginning of its life.  A great gun for club trap, vintager outings, sporting clays and squab shooting at local farms.  Provided in a labeled canvas and leather case.  Accompanying this fine shotgun will be several articles of research regarding the Brancquaert/Defourneys work and the mentioned copy of the original catalog for these guns.  This is an opportunity to own one of the finest hammer pigeon guns available that remains in its original state.  Equivalent to any London Best gun.

Shipping and insurance will be paid by the buyer at a fixed rate of $100.  CONUS only shipment to state-approved FFL locations only.  Item may also be retrieved from current location in Nashville, Tennessee.  Photo zip file or specific requested pictures available to interested parties via email.  Willing to discuss reasonable offers.  Thank you for your consideration.
