Description:
50-70 Govt. caliber. 36 5/8 inch round barrel with a very good bore having scattered light pitting, more so in the grooves but strong rifling. The metal surfaces are a gray-brown patina with a few light handling marks. The walnut stock is in fair to good condition with a repaired break through the wrist, a quality repair with a rectangular 4 1/2” x 1/2” piece grafted in on the left side stock flat, a series of chips along the forend, with other dings and handling marks overall. Lockplate is marked with a partially obscured Federal Eagle, “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD”, and “1864” date, and the breechblock is marked “1866 / (eagle head)”; the steel buttplate is “U.S.” marked. The rifle retains the standard open sights.
