Description:
LEFAUCHEUX--- Ser. No. 438 (1858), 28-Bore Bernard Damascus.  Apparently built for a "Royal", this 28-bore, 27-1/2" barreled
museum quality piece has original and "Signed" Leopold Bernard barrels in pristine as - new condition internally (with
min.bbl. walls: 35 thou. + at the muzzle), and gradually increase in thickness to 50 thou. at midway down toward the breech
(where of course  the bbl. walls are much thicker.).
Externally the barrel color has faded by at most, only 10-20% on this very early mid-19th century gun which obviously spent little
time afield and most of it in a dark gun cabinet.  The rediculously figured stock suffers from stress cracks at the head, which are not structural faults
as they are only in the very thin shell of wood surrounding the action, and can be made invisible.   Stress cracks (which follow the grain) often evolve
when thin and highly figured inletted wood is wrongly used at the head of the stock.  This stock is more than 166 years old--AND THE WOOD MUCH OLDER---
so it has been susceptable to more than a century and a half of temperature change and contraction / expansion which over time took its toll.
******** These cracks have been highlighted to show in the photos--however in reality they are not nearly so obvious *******

Perhaps built for a (usually small but experienced) frenchman or woman, the stock measurements are:
                                                  LOP : 13-1/2",  DAH 2",  DAC 1-11/16",  Right-hand Cast: 1/4" (indicates "shooting flying" experience ?)
                                                  Chambers: 2- 7/16 ",  Weight:  5 lbs--8.2 Oz. (uniquely beautiful - but heavy- wood).
