Description:
This is a VERY-classy, extremely well-made, and exceptionally handsome Parker Brothers BHE Grade Double in a configuration often referred to as Parker's "Live Pigeon Gun" that came from the factory with 30" inch "ACME"-grade fluid steel barrels that are choked "Full" and a very tight "Modified" that almost falls into the "Full" choke range too (It was jokingly-called "Full and Fuller!").  Built by the Parker Brothers firm 117 years ago in 1907, this beautiful gun was one of their flagship models and was way too expensive for the VAST majority of the population when it was new.  It is obviously a very lightly-used gun because it looks great and  and we know with 99.99999% certainty that it was not fired since around the mid-nineteen nineties, when the owner passed away and it went into long-term storage because neither of the kids were interested in it.
This Parker BHE Pigeon Gun looks totally factory-original, and it would be impossible to say otherwise without having that original factory specs available from the book "Parker Gun Identification & Serialization" by Charles Price and S.P. Fjestad.  Everything matches perfectly with this double EXCEPT for the buttstock.  According to the book it should have a capped pistol grip wrist instead of the straight "English" style wrist.  We can also surmise that the buttstock that is currently on this Parker has been on the gun for at LEAST 30 years, and in all likelihood, has been on it for 60 years!  It matches the forearm almost perfectly in every way except that the checkering is finer on the forearm than the buttstock.  Literally, not one single person has even raised a question about the buttstock here locally in our store because it just looks EXACTLY what you would expect from Parker in the the fitting of the metal to the wood, which appears flawless, and how damn-good the forearm matches the butt in color, . The aforementioned book and the info regarding this gun in the book is pictured above in this listing.  When we acquired it the butt was fit with a white spacer and a collapsed rubber pad that was hard as a rock!  We had the white spacer removed and a new pad that looks period-correct installed in place of the collapsed hard one.  The length of pull was kept the same as it would have been if the old pad wasnt collapsed, at 14" inches from the front trigger to the end of the pad.   Outside of the buttstock and  of this spectacular gun is in exactly the same configuration as the book says it was when it left the factory, a "Quality A5" BHE Grade double on a size "2" frame with double triggers, ejectors, and 30" inch Acme-grade steel barrels.
As you can see from the pictures, this really has some spectacular factory "B" grade hand-cut engraving on it, consisting of expertly-executed floral/scroll patterns that are both intricate and beautiful.  You will notice that there is a panel on each side of the receiver and on the bottom of the receiver that are filled with particularly striking engraving.  This engraving stands out from the rest of the engraving on the gun, just as it was designed to do. This engraving was cut into the metal with a great deal more relief than the remainder of the gun.  The panels located on either side of the receiver are round in shape, and they both feature two types of flowers with 7 blooms total per-panel.  The panel located on the bottom of the receiver is rectangular in shape and engraved with a floral pattern as well, with two types of blooms and 5 total flowers surrounded by two different types of leaves.  The remainder of the master-level factory engraving is made up of intricate and small scroll designs as well as some classic patterns and detail work.  The receiver still shows some faint case colors in some areas while the protected areas show much more vivid colors.  In the areas where the case-colors are either completely gone or extremely faint, the metal has taken on a very uniform-looking light gray patina.  There are no eyesores, blotches, or bad staining that stands out on this beauty.  The gloss blue finish on the barrels, the lower tang, the forearm hardware, and the triggerguard, is both handsome and bright, showing only minor wear and handling marks.  There are no eyesores or bad spots that stand-out on this gun and detract from it's clean appearance.  All of the screws in this gun in both the action itself and the stock set look factory-original, and they all are in good shape or better, with many of them still "timed" together with matching slot angles in the screw heads. There are only a few screw heads that have a little very-minor marring of the slot.  All of the factory markings / stamps / and factory proofs on this gun are 100% legible, crisp and clear, including all of the stamps on the water tables of the receiver.  The breech face of the receiver is in excellent condition as well, with no damage to the firing pin holes, no evidence of having sustained damage from dry-firing, and no ring-shaped indentions from primer erosion are visible. This Parker never had a safety, as you can see the upper tang is solid and not plugged.  This was very common for a Parker double made for competitive live pigeon shooting, as these events generally use the "No Alibi" rule, meaning you do not get another chance to shoot because you forgot to take off the safety, or if you had a malfunctioning safety.  If the next owner requires that it have a safety, one can be added by a competent gunsmith without too much trouble, as the receiver was originally designed to take a tang-mounted safety so there is all of the room needed for one already there.
The barrels on this beautiful Parker are 30" inches long and were factory-fit with a solid rib, automatic ejectors, and 2.75" inch chambers.  We measured the constriction and the barrels are choked at the very tightest end of "Modified" and a normal "Full".  The bores in both barrels are clean and bright with no dents, bulges, pitting, cracks, or visible metallurgic defects of any kind.  The checkered Walnut stock set is in very good condition and is quite attractive with a .  It shows some very nice dark figure in it, and the checkering still looks sharp. Both the forearm and buttstock are free from any major damage, cracks, chips, or repairs.  Both parts are nice and tight to the gun with no wiggle, and the joints between metal and wood are tight.  This double is in perfect working order, and the barrels are perfectly on-face and lock tight in-battery  Every part of this beauty is still nice and tight, with no loose parts, ratlles, or worn mechanics.  The locking blocks in this Parker are just barely worn-in,and they have been at this spot for many decades, as you can see how tyhre case colors under the lever have been protected from fading and wear better then the surrounding area. This beautiful Parker needs absolutely nothing, it is ready to go afield or to the skeet/sporting clays course.  This is THE type of gun that ANYONE WOULD BE PROUD TO OWN, and the next owner better be prepared to have strangers come over to drool on it and ask questions at the skeet field, dove field, quail plantation, or anywhere else you have it around other people.  A truly exceptional American-made double, easily part of the ten best sporting doubles ever made here in this country.
