Classic John Moses Browning Design!

Here we present a C&R Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle in .25-35, made in 1906 in New Haven, Connecticut. The credit for the design of such a prolific firearm again lies with John Moses Browning, who lent his extensive design talents to a large number of weapon types throughout his career. The Model 1894 was the first Winchester rifle made for use with the new technology of smokeless powder and was developed as a hunting rifle.

Over 7.5 million were produced from 1894 until 2006. While various cartridges were supported throughout the run of the gun, the .30-30 Winchester became its staple. In practical use, the Model 1894 became a favorite for general shooters and hunters alike. To this day, it remains a deer hunting favorite, and, in all likelihood, more deer have been taken with the 1894 than any other. The .25-35 was, and still is, a fairly short-range, medium range game cartridge. This Model 1894 rifle features a 26-inch octagon barrel chambered in scarce .25-35 Winchester Center Fire. The .25-35 was valued for its speed, trajectory, and lower recoil. It was a popular round in the Winchester Model 1885 High Wall single-shot rifle. In the U.S. Winchester stopped general production of .25-35 rifles in 1955 but keeps producing ammunition.

The overall condition is very good. Original finish with some use and weathering apparent. Excellent action. The bore is bright with strong rifling. Solid walnut stock—there is some rounding at the toe and a small chip at the right rear of the fore end. The markings are sharp. This example features a nice Marbles rear peep sight and a D.W. King front sight; the barrel mounted rear sight dovetail has been filled with lead and the barrel profile matched so as not to hang up on anything during use or become damaged. A neat rifle in a varminter cartridge!
