Description:

Heavy octagon barrel measures 33-1/4 inches. Bore is bright and is about 37 caliber. On top of the barrel is "E. ANSCHUTZ / PHILADELPHIA" as well on the lock. The rifle is equipped with double set triggers which presently will not set. The triggers feature a static front post with a hair trigger adjacent and slightly forward of the post. Scroll engraving can be seen on the hammer and around the lock. The rifle is iron mounted and has a pewter forend cap. Swiss style buttplate with threaded top spur. All iron surfaces show some even oxidation. The lock and top tang are a smooth brown with some faded color. Walnut stock is in very good condition. It is checkered at the wrist and features a thick cheekpiece. There is just a small chip to the front of the bolster and a few scattered light handling mars. Sights include a globe target front, a windage and elevation adjustable tang mounted peep sight and no provision for rear barrel sight. Rifle comes with its original false muzzle. There is a threaded hole for a palm rest which is not present. Edward Anschutz is listed as a maker of high-quality percussion rifles in Philadelphia 1860-1882, per American Gunsmiths by Sellers.
