Description:
Serial #29695, 10 GA (2 7/8"), 30 inch fine Damascus barrels with very fine lightly frosted bright bores choked about full and modified. This is an early W. & C. Scott side by side hammer shotgun marked "W & C. SCOTT & SON. MAKERS & PATENTEES. 10 Gt CASTLE STREET. REGENT CIRCUS LONDON." manufactured in 1881. This "B" grade shotgun weighing in at 10 lbs 4 Oz. and has about 75% scrollwork on the metal surfaces. The side plates are marked "W. & C. SCOTT & SON" with the lever marked "W. & C. SCOTT & SON PATENT". The gun is in near excellent condition with the fine Damascus barrels retaining much of the original pattern ranging from brown toning to a pleasant pewter grey and free of any major dents with only tiny use marks and some very small nicks. The side plates are mostly a pleasing smoky gray with hints of the original color the frame, hammers and trigger guard showing trace amounts and mostly a faded smoky gray. The walnut stock and forearm have a smooth, worn finish with numerous old scratches and light contusions showing a very light hairline crack on the right side of the wrist and a small missing piece on the upper left tip edge of the forearm. The stock sports a silver oval name plate and horn grip cap and butt plate with some wear and chips to the latter. The barrel flats have the appropriate British proof marks with the water table having the W & C Scott Patent for the action. The LOP is 14" to the forward trigger with drops of 2 1/4" and 3 ?? at the comb and heel respectively. The barrels are on face with a tight lock up and the lever resting just right of the center. The hammers cock and release with a crisp trigger pull. A beautiful, early, large bore W. & C. Scott double hammer shotgun that would be a pleasure to shoot with the proper low pressure loads.
