Description:
Rare French Mfg. d'Armes de Châtellerault MAC Modele 1950 Semi-Automatic Pistol, #A5.858, early model. No import marks. 9mm, 4.4" barrel, parkerized finish, black ribbed composite two-piece grips, unmarked 9-rd. magazine, low-profile blade front and fixed deep "U"-notched rear sights, and ringed hammer. Mfg'd 1950-1970. Includes a period leather flap holster with an additional 9-rd. unmarked magazine. Holster is very good with good creases in fittings and tight stitching.
The MAC 50 was the standard sidearm of the French Army during that time frame. Pistol is in good condition, retaining considerable thinning military finish, with scrapes, scratches and scattered areas of surface erosion. Slide and frame show edgewear. Factory markings remain sharp with no visible import marks. Grips are good with scratches and scuffs. Base is cut for a shoulder stock (not included). Bore is good with light frosting, some light scattered roughness and strong rifling. Action functions well and locks up securely. Fully functional and shootable.

Caliber: 9mm Parabellum
Action Type: Single Action Semi-Automatic with Detachable Magazine
Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “MAC”. The right side of the slide is marked “MODELE 1950 / CAL. 9mm”. The right side of the frame is marked “C 3975”.
Barrel Length: 4 ½”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a small serrated ramped blade fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a “U” notch in a raised boss integral to the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece serrated black synthetic panels. The grips show scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches. There are no cracks. Overall the grips are in about Good-Very Good condition.
Type of Finish: Parkerized
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is light gray and the rifling is well defined.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 50% of its metal finish. The finish exhibits general thinning with a drift toward a greenish patina. Most edges are worn to white. There are scattered lgiht nicks, scratches and scuffs. The action shows operational wear and the controls show handling wear. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in about Good-plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly and features a magazine disconnect safety and a slide mounted thumb safety. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Accessories: The pistol comes with a brown leather flap holster and two 9-round magazines. The holster shows scattered minor wear, in about Very Good-Fine condition. The magazines show operational wear, some minor surface oxidation, intact feed lips and strong springs, in about Good-plus condition.
Our Assessment: The MAC Modele 1950 replaced the MAC Modelo 1935 as the French military sidearm. Following their liberation and the end of WWII, French sidearms were a mess with three different domestic models, lend-lease 1911s, and German P38 and P08 pistols all in inventory, chambered for three different cartridges! The 1950 was an attempt to simplify the sidearm situation, having one pistol to replace all of the others. The model is chambered in 9mm Parabellum and is equipped with 9 round magazines. Comparatively few of these pistols are available and collectors watch for them. This one is in Good-plus condition, retaining about 60% of its original finish and comes with a holster. It should make a nice addition to a French or Cold-War era sidearm collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
